Building a Trauma Responsive Workplace

An interactive program to raise awareness of the role of trauma in the workplace and to implement sustainable trauma responsive organizational change.

Program Overview

The SWIM-NATAL Training on Building a Trauma Responsive Workplace is designed for dedicated members of motivated workplaces, who are committed to learning about trauma responsive workplace strategies, organizational growth, and implementing necessary change at their organizations Our innovative training allows participants to utilize our state-of-the art wellness and resiliences services throughout the day.

The training consists of a six-model interactive program designed to take place over 3-months or 6-months. In our training, participants will consider the following:

The role of trauma in the workplace environment.

Examine workplace culture.

Policies and procedures through a trauma responsive lens

Implement a project

Training implementation strategies, consultation, and peer support are built into the program to maximize learning and enable organizational growth.

Project

 Identify and design a project that will be implemented within each participant organization. This will include resource mapping, planning, engaging focus groups, and convening ambassadors for growth at participant organizations. The project will develop throughout the course of the training and will be tailored to each organization’s self-identified needs.  

Practice

Participants will plan and deliver a psychoeducational workshop (e.g., trauma and resilience; understanding stress and the body; mindfulness and relaxation) during the course of the training.  Opportunities for practice and feedback will be provided in the training group setting.

Module 2: Introduction to Resilience, Stress and Trauma

Module 3: Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences

Module 4: Trauma Informed Workplace: Establishing Safety and Building Trust

Module 5: Relationships at Work: Examining Biases and Trauma Informed Communication Skills

Module 6: Psychoeducational Workshop

Expected Outcomes:

  • Company wide acknowledgment of trauma responsive efforts

  • Reduced absenteeism, presenteeism, burnout, and turnover rates

  • Increased sense of employee workplace belonging, motivation, and engagement

  • Increased engagement in workplace wellbeing programming

  • Increased employee resilience and coping

  • Intentional workplace culture shift while upholding core company values
